The Metropolitan Region has much to offer golfers, with courses of every length and skill level throughout the area. Here are a few of the more notable nearby golfing destinations.

Tannehill National Golf Course

Debuting in 1996, this par-72 18-hole track in McCalla is marked by mounded fairways carved around a spring-fed creek. Thirteen lakes come into play on the course, and the creek divides eight holes. With numerous sand bunkers and tiff dwarf Bermuda greens, Tannehill National offers an enjoyable round of golf for players of all skill levels.

Bent Brook Golf Course

Located outside Birmingham, Bent Brooke's 27-hole layout is separated into three nine-hole courses: Brook, Graveyard and Windmill. A natural stream winds through the Brook course, and a small cemetery on the property gives the Graveyard course its name. Bent Brook's signature is the large windmill for which the final course is named. Central to all three courses is a large farmhouse-style clubhouse that holds the pro shop and deli style restaurant.

Highland Park Golf

The oldest golf course in Alabama, Highland Park golf has providing championship-style play since 1903. The course is rich in history and tradition, and was the site of some of Bobby Jones' first victories. The course is still an amazing experience thanks to the 1998 restoration by renowned architect Bob Cupp. The bent grass greens afford fantastic views of downtown Birmingham.

Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail

The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is the largest golf course construction project ever attempted. The Trail is comprised of 10 public courses across the state, totaling 432 holes and over 100 miles of course in all. Jones, perhaps the best course architect in the world, has carefully constructed each course on the Trail according to the natural topography. The courses offer a variety of premier golfing experiences.

Lakewinds Golf Course

Lakewind's 125-acre layout provides a great golfing experience and beautiful views of Lake Martin. The small greens keep in proportion to the length of the hole, creating a variety of different tee shots as you play along. Three lakes and numerous sand traps make accurate iron shots an absolute necessity. The course, located in Alexander City, has been modernized with new cart trails, a new irrigation system and a renovated clubhouse.
